Starting August 3rd, spend one week in a charming small villa
in the beautiful town of L'Isle sur la Sorgue, not far from Avignon and the small
perched villages of Provence.
Then we travel through the Midi-Pyrenees, staying first in a lovely old chateau -
with swimming pool! - near Millau; a chance to see the amazing Viaduct of Millau, the
highest, longest bridge in Europe. On to Carcassonne, a medieval fortress and a World
Heritage Site. Travelling on through the Midi-Pyrenees we stay in a delightful Bed &
Breakfast - also with swimming pool! - and a family-run chateau before arriving in
Bordeaux for the last 2 nights of the tour.
While in our villa we will
visit the surrounding villages, such as Gordes, the town of artists, and Roussillon,
famous for it's red ochre buildings. And of course we cannot miss a day in Avignon!
L'Isle sur la Sorgue ("The Island on the Sorgue River") has numerous
canals running through it, in fact, our villa is situated on one of the canals.
The town is famous for it's Sunday market, the biggest in Provence, with one long
street purely selling antiques. A great place to browse, even if not buying! Our
villa is only a 10 minute stroll from the heart of the Old Town, in a quiet cul-de-sac
with a terrace bordering the river. A tranquil haven in which to relax after a
day exploring the treasures of Provence!
Another excellent excursion is to Les Baux, another World Heritage village and
also the site of the Carrières de Lumières, the "Quarries of
Lights", which each year present an amazing sound and light art show. This
year the show of Carrières de Lumières redrew a century of Spanish
painting wth the show Picasso & the Spanish Masters. We await with eager anticipation
the announcement of next year's show.
As we travel on through
the countryside we will take time to explore the small villages and rural areas,
have picnics, and indulge in local cuisine and wine. After all, that is what France
is all about! We enjoy showing our guests the France that WE love, the hidden
corners, the little country roads, what we think of as the REAL France. We have
been taking small groups of clients from many different countries - New Zealand,
Australia, USA, UK - since the year 2000, and have thoroughly enjoyed our times
together. So why not join us for an adventure! As places are limited, it is advisable
to book early, preferably before the end of the year.
